Autism therapy - A bridge to life or "forced adjustment"?
Intensive therapy over several years is indicated for the severity, the complexity and the autism-specific change difficulties. As different as the disorder can be, the therapeutic approach must also be flexible. So far, no single therapeutic method has provided satisfactory approaches for all areas of this very complex disorder.
Central to the special autism therapy
are approaches that have been specially developed for people with autism (e.g.
TEACCH , Picture Exchange Communication System), autism-specific forms of
perception promotion and "social empathy", behavioral therapy, music
therapy, curative education and family therapy methods
Some autism-specific therapy
approaches are briefly presented below.
ΓΌ TEACCH
You often go to normal schools
without being recognized, where "normal" behavior is expected from
you. And here at the latest they stand out due to their strange social behavior.
The TEACCH approach (Treatment and
Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children:
"Therapy and educational support for autistic and similarly
communication-disabled children") is an educational approach that mainly
focuses on the strengths of people with the autism spectrum. Disturbances in
the visual-spatial area as well as their preferences for structured activities
or special interests are concentrated.
The structuring takes place via
plans, color coding of objects, timepieces, and structured tasks such as
“basket tasks or shoebox tasks”.
Promotion of communication with
picture cards based on the Picture Exchange Communication System approach
Using this method enables individuals
to understand and practice communication in a social context. People who use
the Picture Exchange Communication System learn, intrinsically motivated, to
communicate with the help of picture or symbol cards. For example, an image of
an object or of a desired action is given as an exchange for this object or
this action.
Autism
Therapy at Speak Easy Solutions
Our autism therapy center has a wide range of offers ready. They are
continuously developed. If necessary, new offers are designed and introduced.
With these offers we support people with autism spectrum disorders. We also
provide support and advice for their families and relatives.
Education and advice for the
environment, such as kindergarten, schools, employers, are also part of these
services. Information and training for the interested (specialist) public round
off the offer. Even we also guide them how to perform autism therapy at home with few basic steps.
